b"Another Special Election Day, another pick-up for Democrats in a deep "red" district, this time in rural Kentucky -- the 37th "red-to-blue" state legislative flip since the 2016 Presidential election. High school students across the country hit the streets on Wednesday in a call for gun safety legislation in response to last week's school shooting massacre in Parkland, Florida, and promised to vote out NRA-funded legislators who reject calls to reform our nation's deadly gun laws. But while Democrats, in this environment, would seem to be well positioned to take over the U.S. House in this year's mid-terms, Dem-sponsored focus groups reportedly find voters complaining that while "Republicans have the wrong agenda, Democrats have no agenda."\\xa0 ERIC LEVITZ, Associate Editor of the Daily Intelligencer blog at New York Magazine, joins us to discuss new research findings that show that wiping out all of the nation's collective student debt would have vast economic benefits for the nation, allowing young Americans to purchase new homes, cars and make other investments that would also help to raise middle-class wages -- for the same or less cost than the $1.5 trillion hole in the national debt created by the Republican Party's tax cuts for the wealthy and corporations. Levitz also notes other forward-thinking progressive policy ideas for the future, like free tuition to public colleges. Isn't it time Democratic officials and candidates tell voters what they are for, instead of how much they oppose Donald Trump and the Republican Party, and spell out a clear, forward-thinking progressive agenda for the future? A bit more encouraging news on the gun legislation front, as a major GOP donor says he will not give one more penny to any politician who refuses to ban military-style assault weapons..."
