b"On today's show: When Congress reached a compromise deal to avoid a government shutdown last week, it included a carve-out shielding several ecologically-sensitive wildlife- and tourism-related sites in the Rio Grande Valley in South Texas from Donald Trump's controversial border wall \\u2013 at least until the current legislation expires in 6 months. But Trump's "national emergency" declaration may override even that limited legislative protection. This week, non-profit public advocacy group Public Citizen filed a lawsuit challenging the administration's attempts to use a "national emergency" declaration to steal private property for the wall as unlawful and unconstitutional. ALLISON ZIEVE, General Counsel for Public Citizen and lead litigator, explains the lawsuit filed on behalf of the Frontera Audubon Society, which charges that the wall will impede migration of wildlife and members' access to their property, and three private citizens whose families have owned and lived on the land for generations. Zieve describes the federal government's heavy-handed tactics to condemn and seize their private lands, and how Trump's vanity wall will bisect their properties \\u2013 and in one case will be located mere feet from a plaintiff's home.
