b"On today's 'BradCast':\\xa0 President Biden again urged Americans to get vaccinated as the intensifying Omicron surge pushed hospitalizations to the highest level since the late summer Delta surge. Tragically and predictably, a young former GOP candidate and anti-vaxxer activist in Orange County, CA has died of COVID. In Texas, after Donald Trump demanded an 'audit' of the 2020 Presidential election, his lapdog, Republican Governor Greg Abbott, dutifully obeyed. The state's Republican Secretary of State buried the first report of the so-called 'forensic audit' by releasing it on New Year's Eve. PHILIP B. STARK, Professor of Statistics at UC-Berkley and the inventor of the post-election Risk Limiting Audit (RLA) protocol, discusses the quietly released Texas 2020 'audit' results and more, including the Republicans' newfound 'audit' fever after the GOP spent years blocking Congressional Democrats' attempts to establish legitimate, professional post-election audits in all 50 states after every election. Not surprisingly, the Texas 'audit' appears to have turned up nothing unusual so far. Stark discusses the big picture, including how secret, computerized counting of votes and the lack of legitimate post-election audits, safeguards, transparency and 'evidence-based elections' has made election results virtually impossible for the public to oversee, leading the nation to this moment when American democracy itself is now under very serious threat. Stark also explains that time is running out to act to make our election processes far more publicly transparent and visible, to prevent what Stark calls the 'weaponization' of uncertainty.
