'BradCast' 1/3/2023 (Republicans in Disarray: GOP fails to elect House Speaker)

b"On today's 'BradCast':\\xa0 We're back in time for a doozy of a day in Congress. The new Republican U.S. House majority failed three times to muster the 218 votes required to elect a House Speaker, for the first time since 1923.\\xa0 Republican Majority Leader Rep. Kevin McCarthy actually lost his votes in the third round after a push led by far-right Republican Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-FL) to install Rep. Jim Jordan (R-OH).\\xa0 Without a speaker, no business in the House can proceed. Given the silly business planned by the GOP majority in the House, that's no great loss. House Democrats enjoyed the spectacle of Republicans in disarray, remaining unified behind their new leader Rep. Hakeem Jeffries of NY.\\xa0 With no apparent 'Plan B' in sight, it's unclear how long it will take Republicans to select a speaker. Also today:\\xa0 Democrats won the remaining 2022 statewide contests in Arizona. Democrat Katie Hobbs was sworn in as Arizona's new governor after a judge scathingly rejected a lawsuit by Trump-backed GOP election denier Kari Lake that baselessly alleged fraud and misconduct. Democrat Kristin Mays defeated GOP election denier Abe Hamadeh for the office of state Attorney General, even after a machine recount revealed a sizable discrepancy from the original tally that was attributed to 'human error' in Republican-heavy Pinal County. Arizona's Democratic U.S. Senator Mark Kelly was sworn in for a full six-year term, as the fall-out and disarray from the Trump Era for Republicans continues from D.C. to Phoenix and beyond."
