b"Encore: Original air-date 1/11/2023. On today's 'BradCast': The dangerous GOP scheme to hold the nation hostage by refusing to raise the nation's borrowing limit may come sooner than expected this year, potentially within weeks. If hardline far-right Republicans, who now control the House and Speaker Kevin McCarthy, carry out their threats, it would trigger the first default of the federal government in U.S. history, and cause a national and global recession and/or a depression. Raising the debt ceiling pays for previous spending already appropriated by Congress, and Republicans only try to block it when a Democrat is in the White House. In better news, the Biden Federal Trade Commission has proposed new rules to ban the use of non-compete clauses, one-sided agreements in employment contracts that drive down wages, limit workers' mobility, and keep workers trapped in unsafe or hostile workplaces. MATT KENT, competition policy advocate at Public Citizen, explains the new FTC rule, and why it's critical to protect workers and help break up corporate monopolies. Kent says a surge of public comments in support of the non-compete rule will help ensure it is enacted. He also discusses other efforts by the Biden Administration to increase enforcement of anti-monopoly laws, and rein in Big Tech, Big Grocery, and more."
