Tanzanian president magufuli dies

TANZANIA OFFICIALLY ANNOUNCES THE DEATH OF PRESIDENT JOHN POMBE MAGUFULI. The government of Tanzania has announced there will be 14 days to mourn the death of President John Pombe Magufuli who succumbed to heart failure. Vice President Samia Suluhu has announced the news of the death on national tv. According to Vice President Samia Suluhu Hassan, the country will go into mourning to commemorate the life of Magufuli. The Vice president said Magufuli died at Dar Es Salaam hospital on Sunday. Magufuli has remained out of sight since late February, amid rumors he contracted COVID-19. Officials earlier insisted he is well, but the country’s vice president said Monday it is normal for people to get sick. She asked Tanzanians to ignore outside information that may cause confusion. The president has not been seen in public since February 27. President John Magufuli of Tanzania, possibly the single most vehement COVID denier among global leaders. Mr. Magufuli had won the hearts of many for having a tough stance on corruption and extravagance in which he cut public spending in his cabinet a few days after taking office on November 5, 2015. He was the fifth President of the Tanzania who was re-elected last year for another five year term after having won by a landslide against his rivals in an election that was marred by allegations of intimidation of political opponents.
