#119 Helen Zille - Blockchain, Uber and Regulation

While at\\xa0Blockchain Africa Conference\\xa02019 in Cape Town. Grey Jabesi sat down with\\xa0Helen Zille\\xa0to talk about Blockchain and regulation. Helen is a South African politician, Premier of the Western Cape Province and a member of the Western Cape Provincial Parliament.

Zille is a former journalist and anti-apartheid\\xa0activist\\xa0and was one of the journalists who exposed the cover-up around the death of\\xa0Black Consciousness leader\\xa0Steve Biko\\xa0while working for the\\xa0Rand Daily Mail\\xa0in the late 1970s.\\xa0She also worked with the\\xa0Black Sash\\xa0and other pro-democracy groups during the 1980s.\\xa0In the political arena, Zille has served in all three tiers of government, as the\\xa0Western Cape\\u2019s education\\xa0MEC\\xa0(1999\\u20132001), as a\\xa0Member of Parliament(2004\\u20132006), as\\xa0Mayor of Cape Town\\xa0(2006\\u20132009), and as Premier of the Western Cape (2009\\u2013present).

In this interview, we discussed how governments are reacting to emerging technologies ie Blockchain, Cryptocurrencies, Uber and more. As it stand, Malta is leading when it comes to regulating Blockchain and building an ecosystem that allows for such companies to thrive. This was not the only podcast conducted at the conference, I had a chance to speak with other experts including Leuw Carlsen,\\xa0Lorien Gamaroff,\\xa0Ray Youssef\\xa0and many others.
