S2 Ep9: The Punt Return: Betting on the NFL - Can Lamar Win The MVP?

Published: Oct. 24, 2019, 9:19 a.m.

It's over. The great long shot streak of 2019 is over.

We went into Week 7 with 3 undefeated: the Patriots, 49ers, and Nick's long shot streak.

Only two remain as Nick finally whiffed for the first time in season 2019.

James may have found a new passion as he went 2-0 on his Week 7 plays, having generally focused on the long-term futures market to date.

Josh had another good week and sits at 13-7 for the year on his best bets, but is still looking for a second long shot win after missing out on T.Y Hilton and Cooper Kupp prop plays last week.

But enough of ancient history! Let's look at Week 8!

Discussion starts when Josh asks if Lamar Jackson can win the MVP without elite passing stats, or a consistent receiving corps. What do you think?
The topic of conversation moves onto another athletic QB with Cam Newton nearing a return to full health. The Panthers went 0-2 with a banged up SuperCam as starter, while Kyle Allen has come in and led Carolina to a 4-0 record since. What should the Panthers do with their former MVP?

James surmises that there will be some unlucky NFC franchises who miss out on NFL Playoff spots due to the depth of quality in the conference, while the AFC plays host to just one standout team and a host of almost-rans who could lay claim to "second best".

The lads chat through every match of Week 8 to come up with a list of best bets, player props and DFS selections to keep an eye on, before Nick runs through the Stats Insider modelĀ  early value selections.
