347. The State of Baseball in 2022 with Former 2B Jeff Frye

Published: April 20, 2022, 1:01 a.m.

The 2022 baseball season is the first since 1995 that Seth Everett has not covered the sport in a major league capacity. This is also the first baseball-centric episode of the podcast in 2022. Joining the show is former MLB 2nd basemen Jeff Frye. Frye played in Major League Baseball with the Texas Rangers, Boston Red Sox, Colorado Rockies, and Toronto Blue Jays for all or part of eight seasons between 1992 and 2001. Frye and two colleagues Kevin Gallagher and Pat Geoghegan have started SAVE THE GAME ™. Frye contends that MLB has lost its entertainment value because of its reliance on the power swing and little action between home runs. America's youth is not engaged with MLB because the game has become too slow for this generation. Without the next generation's involvement, MLB's customer base will be diminished and baseball could lose its relevance and becomes a niche sport. The initiative starts a one million signature petition-for-change effort to gain momentum toward a National movement while grabbing the attention of MLB executives on a league and team level. Visit www.savethegameus.com for more information and to sign the petition. Frye is also known for creating the hashtag #shegone which showcases baseball's shortcomings with over 250 videos on Instagram and Twitter.
