I am excited to introduce todays guest! We found each other online, We struck up a conversation and a friendship that’s akin to being a soul mate as we are on the same wavelength. She is an author and has an incredible story to tell. As a survivor of abuse, she has made a tremendous impact on her craft of writing.

Listen in to learn how she was diagnosed at the age of 17 with PTSD, how her abuse decimated her self-esteem, and why she declined a university scholarship. Learn why she thought she had gone crazy from severe depression, how reiki has helped me with physical blockages, and how she decided to write her book.

Enduring Physical Abuse from a Young Age

Emma endured physical beatings from a young age. “When you experience abuse, it’s terrible and causes your cortisol levels to rise.” She lived in high-anxiety as a child; whether she was being beaten or not, she always felt scared and never felt safe in her home.

She understands what triggers her cycle of PTSD and does her best to avoid those situations. Emma also has more trauma about her younger brother's visions and memories of being beaten at home. She also has trauma-based around her older brother, who committed suicide the day after his 21st birthday.

Depression and Anxiety Symptoms that Accompanied Her PTSD

“There was a big block in my throat that I would have to swallow my food and get it past.” It was hard for her to eat for many years, and she became malnourished due to the somatic fallout from her PTSD. Emma also had severe depression along with her anxiety and ended up on medication. At the time, she didn’t realize that all of these illnesses were tied up in her PTSD.

The Cycle of Generational Abuse

“There were times we were at the women’s refuge because we were so scared.” Multiple family members the generation above Emma would beat her, her siblings, and her mother. “We were often isolated because abusers don’t want you to speak out.”
