We recorded this podcast in early March before stay home orders were in place, but felt it was appropriate to post now.

Trigger Warning: Suicide, sexual assault, and drug addiction.

These are challenging times and our guest Dorri Olds will inspire you to overcome whatever your challenges are. She is an award-winning writer whose work has been published on The Fix, The Temper, The New York Times, MarieClaire, Woman’s Day and more.

Growing up on Long Island New York to loving, Jewish parents, she should have a typical suburban childhood, but she rebelled, first attempting suicide at age 5, then becoming addicted to drugs after being raped.

In this episode, we about how she ended up in rehab, mental illness, PTSD, eating disorders, relationships, the benefits of writing, art, therapy and how she ultimately found recovery.

Dorri is so vulnerable in this episode, getting real about her feelings, connecting to others, judgment, feeling uncomfortable in your own skin, acknowledging pain, making mistakes and more.

Dorri and Asher also discuss what happens if you’re a victim of something that’s no fault of your own, and how to move on from it.
