In many ways, we all live our life based on certain unconscious expectations.

We expect the weather to be a certain way.

We expect people to behave in a certain way.

We expect the train to arrive at a certain time.

And when we dwell in these expectations, we set ourselves up for trouble.

Because we all know that at some point, something is not going to meet our expectations.

When this happens, we will tend to judge the experience in a way that sets us up for clinging or aversion.

At this precise moment, suffering happens.

When we practice mindfulness, we release ourselves of the unconscious expectations and willingly and intentionally accept what arises in the present moment.

Now, we don’t judge our experience as good or bad and we don’t experience the clinging or aversion.

And we don’t experience suffering.
