009 - Megan Hamilton - How To Have Difficult Conversations

Published: Sept. 30, 2020, 5 a.m.

Megan Hamilton is a public speaking coach for women with speaking anxiety. She uses her classical theatre training and 25+ years of performance to build a step by step public speaking system that not only allows you to deliver incredible speeches, but also provides you with a framework to have difficult conversations, build your confidence and increase your visibility.

In this episode, Megan shares:

  1. Actual skills and tools for you to use when you need to have a difficult conversation.
  2. Stories & examples of real life situations and how the people involved navigated racism when they saw it.
  3. A simple reminder that the first time somebody speaks up about something is always the most uncomfortable.

Megan’s episode is very powerful and educational.  She starts by stating that white people need to listen to Black people, specifically Black womxn.  It is one thing for white people to start to do the work and learn about being anti-racist through a book like White Fragility, written by a white womxn, but it is completely different to learn from the lived experiences & stories written by Black people.  Megan lists some fantastic resources, & books for the listeners to grab to help them do the work, along with sharing the tools that will help you navigate those difficult conversations, you know the ones, they generally happen at Thanksgiving dinner with that racist Aunt or Uncle.
