Law of Authenticity

On this episode of Shaping Success with Wes Tankersley, Wes continues to discuss the book The Go Giver.\\xa0 He discusses the Law of Authenticity.\\xa0

The Law of Authenticity is not changing who you are to fit other people\\u2019s narratives. It\\u2019s being yourself and not pretending to be something or someone you\\u2019re not. The best gift to give someone is your authentic self.\\xa0

For Wes, his authentic self is that he is very structured in how he does things. Things must be done a certain way and in the most efficient way.\\xa0 The biggest problem with his job is that other people are in charge of his schedule, and they do not schedule appointments in the most efficient way. His appointment time is 9 am to 3:30 pm. He spends an average of one and a half hour at an appointment. Instead of having appointment slots, they have the client choose the time between 9am and 3:30. The schedule for a day might me that he only can fit 3 appointments in because of how they are scheduled. Another issue is where each appointment is. He might be late for an appointment because one appointment might be an hour from his last. For Wes the key to success is time management for his schedule to fit as many appointments as possible and scheduling the appointments together for those clients in the same area. Some people might not think it\\u2019s a big deal to be late for an appointment or late with a quote, but for Wes, it\\u2019s important for him.\\xa0

Wes talks about his time at the tire company and how two different managers handled a situation. When Wes didn\\u2019t answer the phone right away, the manager spoke to him harshly letting him know that ignoring the phone ringing wasn\\u2019t right, and he wasn\\u2019t happy with Wes.\\xa0 Although a difficult conversation, Wes appreciated his boss letting him know that he did something that was not acceptable. Knowing this set him up for success by Wes not making the same mistake again.

There was another manager Wes had that didn\\u2019t talk to Wes about what he did wrong. Instead, the manager was just angry at Wes. Wes ended up confronting his boss about it.\\xa0 The lesson here is you can\\u2019t control how other people react, but you can control how you react. Control what you can control.

Wes talks about the lessons of baseball and how consistent it is. To achieve success, there must be consistency.\\xa0 The only way to get better is to do it repeatedly.\\xa0
