The foundation of situational awareness is capturing clues and cues in your environment \u2013 what some would call \u201cpaying attention\u201d \u2013\xa0and then making sense of those clues and cues \u2013 what some would call \u201cunderstanding\u201d \u2013 and then making projections of future events \u2013 what some would call \u201cprediction.\u201d One of the challenges in the formation of situational awareness that can arise during the \u201cunderstanding\u201d phase is Confirmation Bias.
