ATR - The Deepening Housing Crisis w/ Des Hennelly

Published: Aug. 3, 2021, 4:05 p.m.

Since the 1970s, financial markets and corporations have increasingly enjoyed an unparalleled dominance in the housing sector internationally. This week, Michael sits down with Des Hennelly to talk about his article in the latest issue of Rupture on the commodification and financialisation of housing in Ireland. They discuss how successive Irish governments have driven the financialisation of housing ever deeper, and the task of socialists to work within housing movements to demand mass public housing programmes which begin the process of decommodifying the housing market and ensuring secure and affordable homes for all.
