The LGBTQ+ community claims to celebrate diversity, individuality, and sexuality.

Why is it that racism isn't addressed?

Particularly on dating apps, racism is frequently justified as “it’s just my preference”. No. Whether you prefer your cocktail on the sweet or sour, stronger or weaker side is a preference. Making preemptive decisions on a person based on their ethnicity is not a preference- it’s racism.

What flabbergasts me is how in a community that claims to be tolerant of all, and where most people have experienced oppression or discriminated first hand, racism is deemed socially acceptable.

Perhaps it is important here to state the obvious: Having been a victim of bigotry does not make you immune against being a bigot yourself.

In this episode, my friend Jeevan (@lgbt.abdnaware) and I will be discussing racism within the gay community: where it stems from and what we think of it. Please don't be shy to comment or privately message me, should you have thoughts, questions, or constructive criticism.
