Australian prime minister Scott Morrison has delivered a forceful message that New Zealand should stand strong with its democratic allies in dealing with China. Morrison's comments follow the remarks last week from New Zealand trade minister Damien O'Connor, who told the CNBC television network that Australia should consider softening its diplomatic approach with the Chinese government. The comment has reportedly ruffled political feathers across the ditch. Asked directly about New Zealand's commitment to the Five Eyes security alliance, Morrison told Sky News Australia this isn't the time for any of its members to straddle two sides of the ideological fence.
