Former MP Tracey Martin explains split from NZ First
The former New Zealand First MP, Tracey Martin, has quit the party saying it has become less democratic and has trouble recognising women in leadership roles. She says she gave her resignation to the party's acting president, Darroch Ball, on Monday. Martin was elected to parliament as a list MP for NZ First in 2011. She was the party's deputy leader from 2013 to 2015 and in the Labour/New Zealand First government she held roles including Minister of Internal Affairs, Minister for Children, and associate education minister. She told RNZ political editor Jane Patterson her differences with the party came to a head in the run up to last year's election.
