Consumer NZ wants reform over retirement village contracts

Consumer NZ is calling for urgent reform after it discovered retirement village contracts it says unfairly favour villages and leave residents out of pocket. The consumer advocate surveyed contracts offered by six major retirement village operators - Arvida, Bupa, Metlifecare, Oceania Healthcare, Ryman Healthcare and Summerset. It says some of those agreements can have a nasty financial sting and even risk breaching consumer law. Jessica Wilson is Consumer's head of research.
