HARLINGEN, TEXAS - One of the top political events of the year in the Rio Grande Valley was the retirement announcement of state Sen. Eddie Lucio, Jr.

The Brownsville Democrat began his public service in 1971, becoming Cameron County Treasurer and later Cameron County Commissioner. After having served two terms in the Texas House of Representatives, he was elected to the Texas Senate in 1991. He is third in seniority and Chairman of the Senate Committee on Intergovernmental Relations.\\xa0

On Nov. 4, at his Harlingen district office, Lucio announced he would be retiring at the end of his current term. Excluding a Q&A with reporters, this podcast contains all of the remarks he made at the event.
