WESLACO, Texas - At a recent meeting of the RGV Metropolitan Planning Organization, TxDOT’s engineer for the Pharr district, Pete Alvarez, expressed his concerns about priority projects for the MPO.
“We have projects that were identified back in 2000 that are still being worked on today that have not been delivered. So, people have asked, how do we get more money from TxDOT. We’ve got to deliver these projects, folks. Enough,” Alvarez said.
Alvarez said the MPO and TxDOT have to be held accountable for the things each is responsible for.
“But if we are going to sit here as a policy board and make a determination, yeah, let’s identify this project and that project… and I am looking at a project that was started back in 2000 that hasn’t been delivered, is that really a priority project for this region?”
The attached podcast includes Alvarez’s remarks and an interview with Edinburg Mayor Ramiro Garza. His city does not have any projects on the MPO’s priority list.
