Ep 18: Pregnancy & The Permission to Be Loved

Published: Feb. 6, 2021, 4 p.m.

How do you love and care for yourself when you’re pregnant or think you might be pregnant? And how differently do you treat yourself or ask others to treat you when you’re not pregnant?

We’ve entered into the month dedicated to love and while romantic love is fab(!), our first episode looks at the differences in how we love ourselves (love as an action) and how we ask others to love us when we’re pregnant vs. when we’re not. And on a deeper level, how we might be holding love and care from ourselves when we’re not in the “pregnant club.”

We’re taught that we deserve love based on conditions—our ability to give something in return, ie. a baby. And so, when it’s “just us,” we either deprioritize our own care or may not feel that we have the same right to ask for what we need as we would if we were pregnant.

In this episode, I share how pregnancy inherently gives a greater permission to be loved and cared for and the differences you may experience after a loss. I share examples from my own pregnancy journey and some that might have snuck into yours without your knowing.

The truth of the matter is that you are worthy of love—pregnant or not, TTC or not, ready to try again or not. And if you do nothing else this month, allow yourself to be loved just because you exist.
