Risk Reward Renegade: Paige with Anil Thadani

Published: April 11, 2021, 8 p.m.

Anil Thadani, a superb storyteller and life-long risk-taker, is Chairman of Symphony Asia. Such a pleasure to learn about his childhood, particularly his father, who told him, “Nobody in our family has the brains to be an engineer”, which inspired Anil to prove him wrong; why he left tropical Madras, India, for snowy Wisconsin to gain a master’s in engineering, and while there, how he organized “credit” to buy a 1966 Mustang Convertible. Later, his company would serve “the first pizza in China”, but “we were ahead of the time,” Anil tells; and why he “doesn’t do despondent”, his rationale for his bullish mindset on Asia, and the need for young people to be risk-takers, but “not bet the farm”. Learn how his fruitful career led him to establish one of the first private equity firms in Asia, and of course, what led to him to cofound Aman Resorts, along with his passion for the wilderness and Arctic travels, philanthropy and volunteerism, and gender equality — to Pass The Power on to you.
