16 - How A Patient And Resilient Adam Gilchrist Pioneered A New Brand Of Cricket

Published: May 15, 2017, noon

Adam Gilchrist was one of the world's greatest cricketers across all forms of the game, redefining the role of the wicketkeeper batsman over 96 test matches, 287 one-dayers and 120 Twenty20s.

He was one of the most exciting players of all time. Gilly holds the record for the fourth fastest Test match century and was the first player in Test cricket history to hit 100 sixes.

He was a key part of Australia's all conquering Test team in the early 2000s, and talks about the fascinating dynamic between the players, which became fractured after an ugly Ashes failure in 2005.

It wasn't a smooth rise to the top for Gilly, who almost gave away wicketkeeping before patiently rising through the ranks. And even when he made it into the Test team there were form slumps, scrutiny and malicious gossip to deal with. He talks about overcoming adversity and the outpouring of emotion that followed.

It's a fascinating and revealing interview. Gilly also talks about multi-million dollar sponsorship deals, doing business in India and takes us behind the scenes for a few of his most memorable innings.

This episode is hosted by PickStar founders James Begley and Matthew Pavlich.
