You were born there, went to school there, and all of your family lives there. Now imagine a knock at your door, and standing there is a person who represents the United States government. The person at the door then challenges your ethnicity, and you have to move out of your home because the Federal Government has determined that since you are not who THEY say you are, you must leave your home, your land, and maybe even the town that you grew up in. To some degree, this is what the Mashpee Wampanoag people are now facing. In this week’s episode of Native Opinion, we discuss the decision by the Interior Department to determine a finding that the Mashpee Wampanoag people “do not meet the definition of an Indian”. Also other native news, and featuring music by Jan Michael Lookingwolf. The Native Opinion theme song “Honor The People” is by Casper Loma Da Wa.
