Have you ever been in a situation that was upsetting to you, and you knew that if you could only see things a little differently, you’d feel much better?

Have you ever been offended by someone’s behavior towards maybe the way they said something or did somethings, and when you mentioned it to them, they had no clue what you were talking about?

Is there something you do, or think, or way you react consistently, but you can’t seem to help yourself in certain situations?

The purpose of this episode is to give you a framework for how we form perception and how you can change your perceptions to help you achieve your desired outcomes. How we interpret information to produce our perceptions, how those perceptions effect how feel, how our bodies react to our perceptions, and how our perceptions lead to our behaviors. To put all this together, we’re going to dive into a super-power model for NLP.

Neuro Linguistic Programming (NLP) is an evolving field and can be applied in different ways in different situations, so the definition can vary. Here’s the working definition as given by the creators of NLP:

It is a modeling approach and pragmatic discipline relating to bringing desired outcomes into real life experience. It is known as a study of what works and the context in which it works. It is also known as a study of excellence and consists of three components.

  • Neuro – relates to the nervous system, or the mind, through which our experiences processed via the five senses and the result of that process creates a mental map.
  • Linguistic – relates to language and other non-verbal language through which our mental maps.
  • Programming – relates to the behavioral response as a result of our mental and linguistic maps.

Because NLP is about learning about how we do things, not necessarily why we do them, once we learn how we do something, we can change the structure of how we do that thing to get different results.
