Inspiration, motivation, and your abundance

If you’ve been listening for a while, you know that this isn’t another motivational podcast. We go much deeper than that here.

Let me explain…

Have you ever felt compelled to do something, to take action? A client recently contacted me because she wanted to have a quick talk about a business she wanted to start. It would be a business aimed at helping others feel safe and secure — well aligned with what we all need today, right?

Sounds good so far, but we need to get some context.

She has been, understandably, upset by all the turmoil she sees in the world. It makes sense that she’s craving safety, security, and certainty for herself and for others, especially since those things were lacking in her own upbringing. We all want these things. She also thinks that her current job is in jeopardy, so she feels the need to create options.

What she thought would be a 20-minute chat turned into a two-hour deep conversation of us exploring the birthplace of her ideas.

As in, where do all those ideas, inspirations, and nudges come from?

You might be wondering why it matters.

Because externally-motivated goals or plans lack a key ingredient: inspiration.

Motivation is externally-driven. This isn’t necessarily a bad thing, but when you’re talking about a big change like starting a business for the first time, you need to be inspired, not just motivated. If you’re only motivated, most of the process is going to feel like a grind. And before long, you’re going to be exhausted.

Inspiration, on the other hand, is internally-driven and is always positive.

It lights you up inside and gives you energy. And you’ll need it to do the hard things required to make your dream a reality.

When you’re inspired, you don’t need an alarm clock to get you out of bed in the morning. In fact, in the early days, you might have to use the alarm clock to discipline yourself to take breaks.

In today’s episode, we revisit the concept of the direction filter. Are you primarily moving towards what you want or away from what you don’t want? Both have you moving in the same general direction, but the focus is in opposite directions. If you’re focusing on what you don’t want, you might not even know what you do want!

From an NLP perspective, we have the conscious mind, the unconscious mind, and higher consciousness — which consists of the higher conscious mind (or higher self, or soul) and the superconscious (God, Source, the Universe or another name you choose). That higher conscious mind is the part that’s connected directly to your unconscious mind.

My goal is to help you align your unconscious mind with your higher conscious mind so that you can be truly inspired from the inside, keep your focus on what you want, and take inspired-action steps from there.

Now inspiration is all about having divine guidance. This is where we meet our higher consciousness and where we’ll find the blueprint for good things in their ideal form. This is where we find our flow, where everything feels clear, easy, and effortless.
