Ep. 68 - USMC Machine Gunner to Navy Pilot with Phillip Exner

Published: Sept. 1, 2021, 11 a.m.

Phillip enlisted in the Marines in 2008 following high school. He spent 5 years with the Marines, completing 3 tours, including deployments to Afghanistan, working with Security Forces. While he had transitioned out after his first contract to pursue a career in law enforcement, he found himself back in the military a few years later to pursue a dream of becoming a pilot. Because of his tattoos, he was denied by both the Marines and Air Force; however, the Navy welcomed him and his tattoo sleeve with open arms. After years of training, Phil is now 2.5 years into his 8 year contract as a Navy helicopter pilot. Learn about Phil’s pilot pursuit and the course of training and education involved in the pilot pipeline.
