  • FOCUS: There are those who “don’t want to get involved” and those who acknowledge your value to them.
  • ENGAGEMENT: You don’t have to be rude or entertain people talking shit about your friend, but if you do, as a friend, we accept where you stand. You can only be on the fence for so long and as in any situation where people watch people being bullied, you’re just as bad as the bully.

When you know yourself well, you can navigate through these moments and not lose any friends, create your boundaries, and return to having healthy friendships, for each other and yourself. Is it hard to honor your friend being talked badly about, gracefully? No. Is it hard to move the conversation into something more positive and productive? No. So why do we feel the need to allow the hurt of others to seep into our lives without our permission, we don't want to hurt anyone, but in the end, it's good to set boundaries and still keep all friendships.
