Senate Vote Puts Keystone Pipeline On Ice http://www.businessinsider.in/Senate-Vote-Puts-Keystone-Pipeline-On-Ice/articleshow/45198752.cms

A bill to approve the Keystone XL pipeline was defeated in the Senate on Tuesday. The Senate voted 59-41 putting the bill one vote shy of the 60 it needed to reach the White House. President Barack Obama did not support the bill to approve the pipeline, which would have carried petroleum from Canada’s oil sands to the Gulf Coast. via Business Insider India

Thousands of construction jobs are created - For Two Years, then all those construction jobs dry up and then what? Where is the Long Term Benefit to the United States?” -Redditor Nettoyan7

“I’m on board with what you’re saying but you have to acknowledge one benefit of the pipeline and that’s the (presumed) reduction of train-derailment meets crude spills. Again, I’m with you but we have to be fair to the highlight(s) of the idea we don’t like.” -Redditor Synux

Common worry is either spills via train derailment, or spills via pipeline leak, but don’t worry about the leak:

@32:20 Hackers encrypted the entire City of Detroit Database & demanded ransom of 2000 bitcoins ($803,500) http://www.techworm.org/2014/11/hackers-encrypted-entire-city-detroit-database-demanded-ransom-2000-bitcoins-803500.html

During a speech for the North American International Cyber Summit being held at Michigan, Detroit , the Mayor of Detroit, Mike Duggan made a startling revelation. He said that the entire city database was attacked by hackers and held hostage. The attackers demanded a ransom of 2,000 bitcoins, an encrypted digital currency to decrypt the same.

A bitcoin is currently worth $401.75, making that ransom worth $803,500 worth of moolah the hackers wanted in return for decrypting the files. However Duggan said the ransom was not paid because the database wasn’t used or needed by the city.
