The Dystopic Journal starts the year with a new book.  It\'s an entertaining book of dystopic fiction written by comedian Michael Loftus entitled:  Neither Stunning nor Brave.  It\'s a look into the not-too-distant future where the Left\'s cancel culture, ESG scores, and social justice have run roughshod over society and are now making the story\'s protagonist, Avery\'s life a living hell.  He\'s on the run from an overpowered, oppressive, totalitarian state.  When he meets a group of freedom fighters, he has to readjust to a life where people are free to do as they please, and not be subject to the ever-changing whims of an oppressive society.  It\'s a funny story with a serous underlying message, a cautionary tale about leftism run amok.

After 14 unsuccessful tries, Kevin McCarthy is now the Speaker of the House of Representatives.  He finally made it on the 15th vote after a lot of drama and concessions to his conservative base.  An article in FoxNews.com explains how it happened and what it means going forward.  The conservative wing of the GOP held out such things as more fiscal responsibility.

Expect the first half of 2023 to be dominated by Congressional hearings, particularly with regards to Hunter Biden and his dealings with various overseas entities. They\'ll also want to look at alleged infringements of the first amendment at the hands of various government agencies, especially the DOJ and FBI.  This Congress also wants to end the inflation-causing, multi-trillion dollar spending sprees that have gone on the last few years.

Will they use the power the people have given them wisely?  Only time will tell.
