b'Welcome! In this episode of Level Up! With Shay, I have an awesome conversation with Julie Ouellette! Julie is the founder and Producing Artistic Director of The Commons, a Los-Angeles based production company dedicated to empowering work from a diverse group of LGBTQ+ artists whose voices are underrepresented in the entertainment community. We talk about her journey from childhood to creating a theater! From growing up as THAT theater kid, to moving out to Los Angeles right out of high school to go to college, finding jobs that fulfilled her career path and happiness, even though they were “survival” jobs, and then having the guts to quit her job with no plan B - something she doesn’t recommend by the way. Julie knew since she was 4 years old that she wanted to run and create a production company. She may have not had the details down, but guess what? You don’t NEED to have the details. Julie is one of those people who truly has faith in taking the next step and believing that whichever direction it is, a U-turn, a detour, a different exit than planned is the right move. Anything to keep moving. She’s so brave for following her heart, and so strong for continuing to do so even when she’s lying on her floor crying to her mom on the phone. That’s strength people! I’m so excited for you to hear this episode! It’s real and it’s raw! I hope you enjoy!
You can find and support Julie and The Commons on Instagram at @thecommons_la and her personal IG @officialjulieo.
