The Washington NFL franchise announced it is retiring the racial slur they have used for its team name for over 80 years. They did it so hastily that they haven't secured a new name yet. This change was not out of a sudden development of a conscience but because sponsors, retailers and shareholders no longer wished to defend their support for a racist name with a public now moving more and more toward an anti-racist ideology.
