There is a useful analogy to the present pause in the march to what seems an inevitable war. President Trump has temporarily stymied his deadly opponents here, but they are determined to create a war which will vanquish him. The cooperation of Russia and undoubtedly China and many others with the President, including saner force in Iran, has pulled us back from the brink. It is somewhat like the Oslo Accords in which there was a temporary prospect of peace in the Middle East, but only if Great Powers saw that prospect and immediately put shovels in the ground to start the full scale economic reconstruction and development of the region. That did not happen then and the peacemakers were all deposed or assassinated.
