Locals gather for Jan 6 candlelight vigil
b'Jan 7, 2022 \\u2014 Candlelight vigils took place all across the country last night, in commemoration of the one-year anniversary of the attempt to overturn the presidential election and take over the Capitol by force.\\nMany of last night\\u2019s vigils took the form of a call to action, from ending the filibuster to indicting Donald Trump and Rudy Giuliani to supporting Senate bills designed to increase access to the ballot.\\nIn Ukiah, 60-70 people gathered in front of the courthouse shortly before dark to listen to remarks by local leaders and a few songs by the Raging Grannies. \\nUkiah City Council member Juan Orozco and organizer Steve Scalmanini read the details of four Senate bills they urged attendees to support. Third District Supervisor John Haschak shared his thoughts about truth and reconciliation, and the importance of agreed-upon facts.\\nThe vigils were sponsored by what Scalmanini called \\u201cscores\\u201d of organizations, including Public Citizen and Common Cause. He said the initial goal was to have 150 vigils across the country, but that the number swelled to about 300.'
