b'"Served Like A Girl" - an official SXSW 2017 selection - is coming to PBS for Memorial Day. It\'s the story of the Ms. Veteran America competition. Women returning home from service struggle with the transition to the civilian world. Some have a hard time making ends meet. Some have medical problems to contend with. And many have Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, often from combat and sometimes from military sexual abuse.

These women find friendship and purpose through the Ms. Veteran America pageant. Ms. Veteran America is distinguished by her grace, poise, beauty, and service. The competition raises money and awareness to help the fastest-growing homeless population in America: women veterans. About 55,000 female veterans are homeless, and more than half of them are single mothers.

KFI\'s Trevor Gerdes talked to "Served Like A Girl" director Lysa Heslov about earning these heroes\' trust and the 2 1/2 years it took to turn their stories into this acclaimed documentary.'
