b'In this episode we get into two hot issues: Poway Mayor Steve Vaus\\u2019 proposal for government subsidized Poway granny flats and NYC Congressperson Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez\\u2019 proposal for the Green New Deal.\\n\\n\\n\\nAt the local level, we break down Vaus\\u2019 HOMES (Homes On My\\nExtra Space) plan in Poway.\\xa0 There is\\ngood buzz going on in California, in San Diego and here in Poway about\\naddressing the housing crisis.\\xa0 San Diego\\nMayor Kevin Faulconer has proposed plans to make construction easier and to\\ncombat NIMBYism that thwarts new housing growth.\\xa0 Faulconer\\u2019s proposal is a good one, but Vaus\\nwants Poway to go \\u201cOne Step Further\\u201d.\\xa0\\nVaus\\u2019 plan has the city buying the granny flat building, placing it on\\nthe land of a Poway property owner, then splitting the revenue between the\\ncity, the property owner and a property manager to manage the process.\\xa0 Some think it is a good plan to encourage\\nmore granny flats and provide affordable housing for low income tenants.\\xa0 But is it a moral plan?\\xa0 Other property owners, that may be denied a\\ngranny flat or simply do not have room for one, end up paying property taxes so\\na different property owner is rewarded.\\xa0\\nHow are they rewarded?\\xa0 They get a\\nrevenue stream, they get an upgrade to the property that makes their home more\\nvaluable and they get the granny flat building as a gift after 10-12\\nyears.\\xa0 The right answer is to remove\\ngovt control, not more central planning.\\xa0\\nI break it down in this podcast.\\n\\n\\n\\nWe also get into Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez\\u2019 Green New Deal,\\nher political strategy and the moral cause she is championing.\\xa0 But is there an opposition that is engaging\\nin the battle of ideas from a moral perspective?\\xa0 I am not seeing it, but I try to make the\\ncase.\\n\\n\\n\\nWe also discuss San Luis Obipso, my daughter Shannon, the\\nPoway vs Rancho Bernardo basketball big game, Padre Manager Andy Green\\u2019s\\nproposal for extra innings, San Diego State Aztec Basketball, Brady Hoke, Frank\\nRobinson, #PadresTwitter, Brian Maienschein, the Super Bowl, Adam Levine and\\nPresident Trump and the State of the Union.\\n\\n\\n\\nJohn Riley Project Info:\\n\\n\\n\\nBookings?
