Colchonero Chat 109: San Oblak

Rob Walker (@rwalk03) is a staff writer at Into the Calderón and the guest on this edition of Colchonero Chat. He joins Into the Calderón manager Jeremy Beren (@JBBeren) from snowy Ohio to react to and analyze Atlético Madrid’s 1-1 draw at Real Madrid on Sunday afternoon. Jan Oblak saved the day (pun very much intended) as Atlético were put under the cosh in this so-called “decaffeinated derby.” Diego Simeone’s men withstood the pressure, though, to secure a valuable and remain on course for a second-place finish. Jeremy and Rob break down Simeone’s aggressive XI and the controversial refereeing decisions that went against both sides. They discuss Atlético and Antoine Griezmann’s quick reaction to Cristiano Ronaldo’s opening goal after halftime and whether the draw was a fair result in the end. The podders also answer Colchonero Chat amigo questions and ask “just how important is a draw at the Bernabéu?” The guys then switch gears to preview Thursday night’s trip to Lisbon, where Atlético will take on Sporting Clube de Portugal (and quite possibly members of their first team) in the second leg of their Europa League quarterfinal. For analysis and discussion of Fernando Torres’ announcement that he will leave Atlético at season’s end, listen to the bonus podcast at patreon.com/colchonerochat.
