LEGENDS SERIES: William “Bill” Hayes
This week, INSiiGHTS premieres the second of its’ intriguing Legends Series, featuring football coach and athletic director William “Bill” Hayes.
TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (Oct. 30) – INSiiGHTS ON SPORTS, the brainchild of the visionary championship winning coach, Mickey Clayton, debuts its’ latest show on Friday, November 1 at 7 p.m. ET at www.insiights.com which will be the second of the newly-minted Legends Series – featuring an engaging interview with legendary football coach and athletic director, William “Bill” Hayes.
This week, Coach Mickey Clayton sits down with the North Carolina native, Hayes, who won 195 games as a collegiate head coach – the most by a head coach in North Carolina history – during tours at Winston-Salem State (1976-87) and North Carolina A&T State University (1988-2002), winning a combined six conference championships, while earning multiple NCAA playoff bids, and the 1999 Sheridan Broadcasting Network Black College National Championship.
A native of Durham, N.C., Hayes was a pioneer in collegiate coaching, becoming the first African American assistant coach in the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) in 1973, when he accepted the running backs coach spot with Wake Forest University.
An award-winning administrator and dynamic fundraiser, Hayes administrative career in athletics includes tours at his alma mater, North Carolina Central University (2003-07), where he was twice named Athletic Director of the Year in the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA); Florida A&M University (2008-09), and now at Winston-Salem State University (since 2010).
Hayes is a member of three Sports Halls of Fame: the North Carolina Central, Winston-Salem State and CIAA Halls of Fame.
