John Helm, veteran sports commentator, chats to Inside the Beautiful Game about his long and impressive career behind the mic.
John’s journalistic career began in 1959 and after a stint working for local and national newspapers he began life as a broadcaster with BBC Radio Leeds. From there he graduated to television, working as a commentator for Yorkshire Television, replacing one Martin Tyler. Since then John has covered countless major sporting events from behind the mic and has been present at a remarkable 10 FIFA World Cups and several Olympic Games.
