On June 17, 1885, the Statue of Liberty arrived in New York Harbor. Lady Liberty has grown to be an icon for America's hope, enlightenment, and unity. The sonnet on her pedestal reads, "Give me your tired, your poor, your huddled masses yearning to breathe free, the wretched refuse of your teeming shore. Send these, the homeless, tempest-tost to me, I lift my lamp beside the golden door!"
