China, the NBA and the freedom of speech

A tweet from the GM of the Houston Rockets went viral and sparked a firestorm. The NBA wound up trying to both apologize to China and support the rights of Americans to speak their minds freely about issues like protests in Hong Kong, with the end result that both sides seem to be pretty unhappy with professional basketball.
