IV 020 | Daniel Cassidy

Published: May 10, 2019, 4:28 p.m.

Today’s episode is a great conversation I had recently with Daniel Cassidy the CEO of Major League Triathlon, the first and only Professional Triathlon league in the North America.

Dan and I have become close friends over the last few years as I’ve followed the league from its inception in 2016. We cover a wide range of topics today, including

- How Dan’s wife Sarah played an integral role in the creation of MLT through her experience as a Triathlon spectator

- The origin story of Major League Triathlon which started as a way to engage spectators and the general public

- The courage to go all-in and try something new

- Having heroes in professional sports as a young athlete and providing a clear pathway for youth, junior and collegiate athletes aspiring to race at the top of the sport

- My obscure Triathlon hero as a kid!

- The skills and lessons, Dan has taken from sport into business and controlling the things you can control

- Ideas on how to grow engagement and participation in Triathlon

-Gender parity and equality in the Mixed Team Relay format.

- The inauspicious beginnings of the series in Temple, Texas and some of the memorable moments from the first 3 seasons of Major League Triathlon.

Finally, it saddens me to share the news of the passing of Mike Plant, Mike was a legend in the sport of triathlon, many consider him the first person to cover the beginnings of the sport in San Diego, CA some 40 years ago. He was a lifelong contributor to the industry, a friend and supporter of Major League Triathlon and a beacon for positivity. Mike you will be missed, mate.
