Showing Up
Morning Mantra: "You can pretend to care, but you can't pretend to show up."
Yesterday was my father's memorial service and I gave thee eulogy. He was so many things to so many people that it was hard to pin point what he stood for...until I thought about the common thread. He showed up.
This mantra quote by George L. Bell was one of his favorites. He felt that if you truly cared about a person or a cause, you showed up.
You were there for them through the good and the bad. You were there to celebrate the wins, and offer a shoulder for the losses.
And you really need to show up for yourself too. Because, according to my father, you need to show yourself how much you can depend on the person you've become.
When it comes down to it, that's what life is all about: showing up for the people you love, again and again, until you can't show up anymore.
I am really going to miss my Dad, but his wisdom will be with me forever.
