Harlem made him, Edenwald raised him! Can you imagine how the streets were back in the day for someone like Shane not to know that AAU existed growing up? Baseball was his first love, but seeing Danny Tirado coming down the court in transition at 8 years old made him switch gears. From attending John Philip Sousa in Junior High then transitioning to Clinton High School - guidance was hard to find. Imagine your mother at Parent/Teacher Conference being informed that no one knew her son even existed because he never showed up to class. But ask yourself this - would you have a hard time going to class if Tracy Morgan and Gerald Kelly is outside telling jokes in front of the school? Would it be hard to focus if you personally knew drug dealers your age who were outside making damn near 30 grand a day? Lastly, when grown men are walking in your gymnasium with their own 5 to play ball...DURING SCHOOL!!! Transferring to Salesian High with his best friend Eric Mobley was also a journey - and with D1 recruits on his heels his senior year, Shane wasn't really interested in leaving the state once his son was born. He took his talents to Westchester Community College and boy oh boy...did he have some stories for us! The AND1 days were special ...so special that Shane recommended we do a Part 2!!
