Published: April 1, 2019, 7:28 a.m.

Juan Agustin Marquez is a Puerto Rican filmmaker and a four time Emmy award winner. His documentary "The Last Colony" was released in 2015 and follows the events leading up to Puerto Rico's fourth plebiscite, a national referendum to decide the future of the island's status as US territory. Marquez visited Heinz College on March 22 to discuss Puerto Rico's relationship with the US in the aftermath of Hurricane Maria, its efforts to recover from the devastation of the storm, and the future of the independence movement. Following that event, he sat down with Tiffany Taulton, President and Founder of CMU in Puerto Rico, whose group had just returned from a trip to the island.
