On Finding Strength, Clarity and Courage In The Face Of Unexpected Adversities with Deanna How

Published: Nov. 12, 2021, 3 p.m.

As I walked into these past week working through some heart-wrenching episodes of my life, I am heartened and so grateful, to be able to bring you a warm and hopeful conversation I had with my treasured friend, Deanna.

Deanna is a licensed tour guide certified by Malaysia’s Ministry of Tourism and UNESCO. Born and bred in Malaysia, she is passionate about spreading the culture and flavors of Malaysia far and wide to all tourists who visited from near and far. She is experienced with handling groups ranging from full bus loads of tourists as well as private tours. The onset of COVID brought about unexpected and difficult pivots to her life and career and through her tenacity and resilience, she pivoted onto the virtual space to continue to pursue and hone her passion in tour-guiding. At each of our core as human, is the need to be seen and understood and she believes strongly that by sharing Malaysia authentically with the world, that is the first step towards world peace.

There is so much in this honest, warm conversation that all of us need to hear on so many levels, but if there is one message I encourage each of you to take away from this episode, is that, you bring so much more to the table than you think you do. It can be really hard to see or grasp when you’re standing in the midst of a storm, but if you could clear the noise and be still, you’ll see that the resources and possibilities are there; you just need to have the resilience, the courage and the room for curiosity and to all yourself to do it messy to claim it.
