From hidden graves to curious deaths, mythical animals to ghostly apparitions, New Zealand has them all. Not so much crimes but more like the South Island Moose, Lost Tribe, Moa still alive type mysteries. Anyone know of any others?
\\nThe Legend of the \'Lost Tribe\' \\u201cThe most ancient tribe that inhabited the South Island is said to have been the Waitaha. This tribe was exterminated by the Ngatimamoes, who had come over from Wanganui, North Island. The Ngatimamoes lived on the shores of Cook\'s Strait, and subsisted principally on the gigantic moas.
\\nSaurian Monster: These, New Zealand\'s Daily Telegraph reported, were the \\u201cundoubted traces of a saurian monster.\\u201d The word \\u201csaurian\\u201d means lizard-like\\u2014other papers concluded that this monster must be an alligator or crocodile, despite New Zealand\'s smattering of living reptiles being, without exception, only a few inches long.
