When president-elect Joe Biden takes the oath of office today, he will do so against the backdrop of a pandemic that has claimed the lives of 400,000 Americans and a country still tender from violence at the Capitol building just two weeks prior. Biden has called for unity in the wake of outgoing President Donald Trump’s combative four years, but the country remains deeply divided.
